Winner of the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes 2013, the young Spanish clarinetist Pablo Barragán made his solo debut at the Lucerne Festival in a recital streamed by the SFR and published in CD by the Credit Suisse Foundation. Recent engagements include his solo debut in recital at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival 2015 or Mozart Concerto KV 622 live recording. The critics define him as an outstanding musician not only for his overwhelming playing, but also for his stage presence, passion, capacity of communication and sensibility.

“Barragán is one of our young artists whom, in not longer that 2 years of professional life, has positioned himself at the top of the young european talents."

“So young and already so well known artist! He is never 100% satisfied by his performances, even though not many artists have the courage to propose such a vast and contrasted program."

At his 28 years old, but well known already in Central Europe, Barragán exhibited an homogeneous, secure, clean and large sound in all registers, as well as a sinuous flexible phrasing, specialy in the Rhapsodie by Debussy (...) in the Solo de Concours by Messager the interest was transferred to the agility and virtuosity, both impeccable.

"Brilliant Orthodoxy"

... His technique, always superb, allowed him to adjust the dynamics to his will, keeping always the sound homogeneity, and driving the frasing with an excellent legato... Pablo Barragán is not a young promise anymore, he is already a big artist with all the future ahead. Let’s hope that not only in Switzerland audiences will enjoy him.

Diario de Sevilla, J. R. Lara, 13 / 11 / 2014

Barragán’s sound is powerful, tuned, clear, distinguished, elegant, always perfectly nuanced, and the most important, expresive and stylistically suitable: Schumann was as deeply romantic as natural and in Brahms he combined the serene and sober autumnal beauty of the first and third movements with the passion of the central scherzo. The Fantasie for solo clarinet by Jörg Widmann is a tour de force in which he presented an extreme variety of resources. Bravo!

Diario de Sevilla, P. J. Vayón, 18 / 05/ 2013

"From the Audience: Roses for Pablo Barragán"

Pablo Barragán stands out not only for his insightful playing, but also for his impressive stage presence. Perhaps it is thanks to his years of experience playing in Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (...) he is a masterful communicator who connects with the audience from the very first note (...) his performance – in particular that of Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata No. 2 in D minor, Op. 94 – was to the highest of standards.

Lucerne Festival, Andreas Schiendorfer, 22 / 08 / 2013

"The Powers of a young clarinetist"

Pablo Barragán has everything, sensibility, musicality, virtuosity, youth, to triumph as a musician. His concert yesterday was one of the most tremendous recitals I have ever heard.

Diario de Sevilla, P. J. Vayón, 20 / 02 / 2013

“The clarinetist Pablo Barragán, one of the most promising figures in the music scene of our country”
